8 HIPS-ohjelmat (Host based Intrusion Prevention), Behaviour blocker & Sandboxing

Yleisissä virusten ja haittaohjelmien torjujissa tapahtuu hyökkääjien tunnistaminen listausten mukaan. Jos haitakkeen tunnuksia ei ole listassa, se voi jatkaa toimintaansa. Sen sijaan HIPS- ja Behavior blocker-ohjelmat pyrkivät tunnistamaan tunkeutujat niiden toiminnan perusteella. Ne pysäyttävät tunkeutujien toiminnan ja ilmoittavat havainnoistaan. Varsinaisten HIPS-ohjelmien lisäksi on heuristisia toimintoja viime aikoina tullut myös muihin turvaohjelmiin.

HIPS-ohjelmat eivät riitä yksinomaisiksi turvaohjelmiksi, vaan niitä käytetään tehokkasti muiden apuna. Ne eivät liioin ole oikein aloittelevan tietokoneen käyttäjän ohjelmia, sillä hyvät tulokset edellyttävät jonkin verrran tietoja. On pystyttävä päättelemään, mitkä ohjelmien ilmoitukset ovat varteenotettavia ja mitkä turhia. Osaajille erinomainen lisäturva. Näitä ohjelmia ei voi suoraa verrata toisiinsa, koska niillä on erilaisia toimintoja.
